FAQ
Yes, you must be able to swim clothed to the riverbank and will be asked to sign a disclaimer prior to your day.
We are based in Windsor, Berkshire, but we offer a mobile service.
Yes, please. We do not have a base where you can just arrive and take a boat.
We hold £10m Public Liability insurance.
Yes. All participants will be required to wear buoyancy aids at all times and if you follow the simple river rules and our safety advice, you’ll be completely safe! The rivers and boats we use are suitable for all levels.
We think that 2 miles per hour is an achievable pace in our canoes. Obviously some will be faster than others. 10 miles is reasonable in a day for amateur paddlers and 15 miles for those who paddle regularly. The timings and distances also allow the chance to stop a few times, take in the scenery and take refreshments.
We provide a boat, paddles, a dry bag, a buoyancy vest, a briefing, and a map.
All our trips include transport options to or from your start/finishing point or from another pick up and drop off point by prior agreement.
Not at all. You’ll get a quick lesson and will pick it up really quickly!
We have to operate to insurance criteria which states;
Ages 4 to 11 – one adult per child
Ages 12 to 15 – two children per adult
Ages 16 to 17 – three children per adult
Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate under 4 years old.
Group bookings start from 6 persons.
We want everyone to enjoy the river safely. Please call to discuss your needs. We will try to assist if possible.
Loose, lightweight clothing is recommended with footwear, trainers, aqua boots or full sandals. It can be very hot on the river when the sun is out (heat stroke / sunburn) so you may need something that covers your head, arms and legs. Alternatively, you may need waterproof and windproof layers. Please do not wear boots, heels, flip flops or jeans. Don’t wear anything you’re not prepared to get wet.
Lots of fluids, snacks or a picnic, or alternatively there may be a village or pub on route you have in mind.
High factor sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, full change of clothes, towel. We provide waterproof storage for your belongings and there is adequate space for clothing and food.
For your safety, we suggest no alcohol while paddling on the river. If you’d like to enjoy a drink, please do so responsibly once your canoe adventure is complete.
Water and valuables don’t mix and we can’t accept any responsibility for this. If you have to take valuables with you e.g. your phone, please make sure it is stowed away in a waterproof container and be extra vigilant when you’re using it.
Yes, small, well-behaved dogs are OK. Larger or more excitable dogs can cause instability and increases the chance of capsize or may jump out to swim.
You know your dog so this is a personal judgement call. Please note we do not provide buoyancy aids for dogs and advise that your dog is never tied to the boat as they can get tangled or distressed in the unlikely event of a capsize.
You can do either! We would suggest that you paddle through the locks when the lock keeper is on duty and portage if the lock is unmanned. There are chains fitted in the locks to hold onto.
We rarely cancel a trip if it’s raining so make sure you bring the right kit to stay warm and dry. Your safety is our priority and we monitor river and weather conditions daily and ahead of your trip. If we decide conditions are unsuitable you will be advised before you travel and will be given the opportunity to rebook. If you’re unsure about the weather affecting your trip, please contact us in advance. For the River Thames, we are governed by the Environment Agency - river conditions. If the river is on yellow or red board, you cannot go in our canoes. For current river info go to http://riverconditions.environment-agency.gov.uk/
